Jill McDonough

Jill McDonough is the author of the full collections Habeas Corpus (2008), Where You Live (2012), Reaper (2017), Here All Night (2019), and multiple chapbooks, including Oh, James! (2012). Her editing projects include An Invitation to Poetry: A Classroom Guide for Instructors (2006), which she edited with Maggie Dietz and Robert Pinsky, and Forgotten Eyes: Poetry from Prison (2001).

The recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Fine Arts Work Center, the New York Public Library, the Library of Congress, the Lannan Foundation, and Stanford’s Wallace Stegner program, she taught incarcerated college students through Boston University’s Prison Education Program for 13 years. Her work has appeared in Poetry, Slate, the Nation, Threepenny Review, and Best American Poetry.
She teaches in the MFA program at UMass-Boston.
