José Antonio Rodríguez (he/him) is a poet, memoirist, and translator. He is the author of the poetry collections This American Autopsy (University of Oklahoma Press, 2019); Backlit Hour (SFA University Press, 2013), a finalist for the Paterson Poetry Prize; and The Shallow End of Sleep (Tia Chucha Press, 2011), winner of the Bob Bush Memorial Award from the Texas Institute of Letters. He is also the author of the memoir House Built on Ashes (University of Oklahoma Press, 2017), shortlisted for the PEN America Los Angeles Literary Award, a Lambda Literary Award, and the Foreword INDIES Book Award and commended for the International Latino Book Award.

His work has appeared in the New Yorker, The Common, Huizache, the Missouri Review, Pleiades, Salamander, and the New York Times Magazine, among other publications. A Mexican immigrant and first-generation college graduate, Rodríguez earned a PhD in English from Binghamton University and is an associate professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
