Poetryfoundation.org is currently seeking a full-time editor with a background in journalism and poetry. Responsibilities include helping develop and execute online editorial strategy; managing the editorial calendar; assigning and editing online features; writing headlines and other display copy; and collaborating with other Poetry Foundation staff to acquire web content in support of Foundation programs. The associate editor is also responsible for managing the weekly editorial production process, including acquiring art and other media related to our feature stories. Ideal candidates will have at least two to three years of journalism experience and be knowledgeable about popular culture and the Web. He or she must also be willing to relocate to Chicago.
Qualifications: - Strong background in literary journalism and poetry.
- Ability to write and edit prose, including literary journalism and essays.
- Ability to set tone of the site in writing display copy and in editing feature articles.
- Good leadership and managerial skills, as well as a general talent for
communication and teamwork.
- Extensive experience managing editorial projects with some knowledge of editorial processes on the Web preferred.
- Ability to work under a deadline and to complete administrative tasks meticulously.
- Ability to do fast, accurate research, especially on the Internet.
- Proficiency and knowledge of HTML and web publishing is a plus.
- An advanced degree in journalism, non-fiction creative writing, or communications is preferred.
