Re: Surdna Art Residencies for Teens-- Are you involved with, or do you run an artist's colony? Please read:

Hi, Patricia.

I'm brand new to this blog, but I thought this might be a good place to spread the word. Our lit mag, BorderSenses, received an e-mail about the Surdna foundation which we are not eligible to apply for, but which I think would be a highly beneficial endeavor for those writers out there who run or have attended writer's colony.

http://fconline.foundationcenter.org/pnd/10007855/surdna

This e-mail was from Yolanda Alameda from El Paso's Museum and Cultural Affairs Department:

"The Surdna Foundation's ( http://www.surdna.org/ ) Arts program, which funds organizations that provide intensive art-making
experiences for teens, is launching a new initiative in support
of young creative writers.

The foundation is seeking proposals from writers'/artists'
colonies -- artists' communities that serve creative writers --
that have experience with or an interest in working with young
people to develop a summer creative writing retreat program for
teens. Participants will reside in the artists' communities and
will be mentored by professional writers of national/inter-
national stature. All eligible artists' communities that have
historically welcomed creative writers are encouraged to apply."

We don't have such a colony organized in El Paso yet, but I know there are many in other cities. If you would be so kind as to spread the word? Efforts involving teenagers have a special place in my heart.

Thank you!
