culture and society

Zach B at Cultural Society, which is both an online magazine and a book press, has a new issue, or anyway a new salvo of poems, up now. There's a long, casual poem, with a very neat ending, by Amanda Nadelberg, a Minneapolis writer whose ingenuity produced one of my favorite books last year...

Also in that issue, I see what seems, at least at first, like a quietly enraged poem by Mark Scroggins, a poem which doubles as an essayistic response to William Bronk; an homage to Bronk or perhaps a cut-up based on Bronk, from Shannon Tharp (I'm thinking that Zach likes Bronk); very attractive seasonal lyric by Jen Tynes, of whom I had never heard before this morning. If I like her poems as much in a week as I like them right now, I'll like them a good deal.

Tynes' poems, and Amanda's, and others, are making me wonder whether the big secret influence on the rising generation of poets will turn out to be... Lorine Niedecker, my favorite (by a large margin) of the "Objectivists" around whom Zach's project more or less organizes its tastes-- and a poet whom I expect to see here soon.
