Harriet SightingsShould I bring my laptop,” Ange asked. “Sure,” I shot back in email, wondering if it was a Mac or PC? We, like you, first meet Harriet's bloggers on the web, and then feel that we know them through their posts and comments. Setting eyes on them for the first time always fuzzes my mental picture. Ange doesn’t have black hair as in her author photo (Duh.). The laptop she pulled from her bag to blog the Academy of American Poets Forum last week was a MacBook—I guessed that. What I can never guess is where her or other bloggers' posts will get picked up on the web. Here’s a list of upcoming and past virtual and real sightings. It starts with a listing of where you (if you happen to live near “the most expensive neighborhood on the globe”) can set your eyes and ears some of our previous s bloggers: 1. Kwame Dawes, Mary Karr, Yusef Komunyakaa, Patricia Smith, and Rachel Zucker 2. Gift Hub: A philanthropy blog that advises people on how to give away their millions uses Stephen Burt’s essay on Pope to defend naming names on Wealth Bondage News. 3. A Russian blog passes along Christian Bok’s advice to his students (and the gun behind glass) in his post Writing and Failure (Part 2). 4. On Chicks Dig Poetry, Sandra Beasley coins a new verb: “I’ve Been Harriet-ed!” 5. In what appears to me to be a consensus, poets seem to prefer skimming to reading. CommentsYou can't fool me. Ange is a pure creation du texte, a circulation of signs, she does not exist except as a neural evanescence in the minds of her readers -- who themselves subsist but as decoded symbols that wander tormented through the primordial fire of language. I am the only-alive! There is no-one but me! Internet apotheosis! I am made of glass! That goes for you double, Emily. |
