Tibetan Poet and Activist Detained
Yesterday we came across this disappointing news item from Mid Day. Poet and activist Tenzin Tsundue was detained by police ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India. According to the article:
Tsundue, a resident of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, is a well known activist associated with Friends of Tibet (India) and has been held several times earlier for staging protests against Chinese occupation of Tibet, especially when Chinese leaders visit India.
To stage a similar protest against Chinese president Xi Jinping, who was scheduled to visit Sabarmati Ashram today afternoon, Tsundue claimed to have entered Sabarmati Ashram yesterday as a visitor and hid himself inside, the police said.
The article goes on to quote "a senior crime branch official" who claims Tsundue will be released upon Jinping's exiting the city. If readers recall in May of 2013, Tsundue was the focus of two posts by Tsering Wangmo Dhompa. We hope for Tsundue's safe and speedy release.
