Spring Flowers
Today we’ll celebrate the onset of spring by bringing it inside. You will need an adult, a printer, a pair of scissors, glue, and paper.
First, try to look out the window, or take a walk to the nearest park and observe as many signs of spring as you can. Poets tend to be great at observation. Consider: What does it mean to observe? How many tiny details of spring can you notice?
Now, print this document and color the petal templates with the colors of spring. Be as creative as possible, using multicolor, shading, and texture. Then, cut out your petals and, on a separate piece of paper, glue them together into a flower shape. Decorate a wall with the colors of spring by hanging your creations up. Remember the poet’s observation skills you’ve practiced and carry them with you into every season.
BONUS: Look up and try to learn the ASL sign for “poetry,” which, with its representation of the creativity and feelings that emerge from you as you write a poem, looks almost like a flower exploding from the ground at the start of spring.
