Anthony Euwer

American poet and painter Anthony Euwer was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and settled in Portland, Oregon in 1915. He is best known for the dry wit of his limericks, and among his admirers was former president Woodrow Wilson. Euwer’s books include Christopher Cricket on Cats (1909), The Limeratomy (1917), and By Scarlet Torch and Blade (1923). His work is featured in numerous anthologies of quotations and of light verse, including The Oxford Book of American Light Verse (1979, edited by William Harmon), The Harper Book of Quotations (1993, edited by Robert I.
