Catch the FREE world premiere of No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks from the Chicago-based theater company Manual Cinema with music performed live by soul singer Jamila Woods. No Blue Memories, written by Chicago poets Eve L. Ewing and Nate Marshall, is a unique staged retelling of Brooks’s life. Manual Cinema uses simple, illuminative paper-cut puppetry to visually represent the life and work of one of Chicago’s most beloved literary figures. The music is composed and arranged by Jamila Woods and Ayanna Woods.
The performance on Friday, November 17, is in honor of Poetry Day. Inaugurated by Robert Frost in 1955, Poetry Day is one of the oldest and most distinguished poetry reading series in the country.
