Join us in celebrating the release of Halal If You Hear Me, Haymarket Books’ third in the BreakBeat Poets anthology series of writings canonizing poetics in the age of hip-hop. This collection showcases writings by Muslims who are women, queer, genderqueer, nonbinary, or trans. These poems dispel the notion that there is one correct way to be a Muslim by holding space for multiple intersecting identities while celebrating and protecting those identities. The event features a discussion between editors Fatimah Asghar and Safia Elhillo, along with additional contributors to the book. A book-signing will follow the event. An ASL interpreter will be present.
