All are welcome to a poetry discussion and creative writing workshop, “Poetic Erasure,” with Leigh Sugar.

In this session, we will explore poetic erasure as both form and process/noun and verb. We will situate erasure in the context of contemporary poetry, read and discuss contemporary erasure works and artists, and encounter various approaches to erasure. Participants will leave with the beginnings of an erasure project, as well as ideas and guidance for next steps.

Leigh Sugar is a Michigan-born writer, educator, and movement artist. She holds an MFA in Poetry from NYU, where she served as a Veteran Writing Fellow, and has taught writing at CUNY's Institute for Justice and Opportunity, Hugo House, Justice Arts Coalition, and various Michigan state prisons. Poems appear or are forthcoming in POETRY, Split this Rock, jubilat, and more. Particular personal and professional interest areas include mass incarceration, dis/ability, and gender and illness.
