Exhibition Celebration with Monica Ong

| 12:00 AM - 1:00 AM
Poetry Foundation, 61 West Superior Street, Chicago, IL 60654mapMarker

Celebrate our spring/summer exhibition, Monica Ong: Planetaria, exploring the sky from a female perspective. Visitors of all ages are invited to view and interact with Ong’s visual poems, which use the language of astronomy to explore territories of women in science, motherhood, and myth making.

Monica Ong will read and be present as guests experience the exhibition’s interactive mix of displayed and tactile artwork. There will also be gold temporary tattoos, coloring sheets, tarot readings, and a listening booth.

Monica Ong is a visual poet and the author of Silent Anatomies (2015), selected by Joy Harjo as winner of the Kore Press First Book Award in poetry. A Kundiman poetry fellow and recipient of a 2021 Sustainable Arts Foundation Grant, Ong has been awarded residencies most recently at the Studios at MassMoCA, Marble House Project, Millay Colony, and Yaddo. You can find her visual poetry in Poetry Magazine, Petrichor: A Journal of Text+Image, ctrl+v, Waxwing Magazine, Tab Journal, and Scientific American. In 2021 she founded Proxima Vera, a micropress specializing in fine press visual poetry editions and literary art objects, many of which belong to distinguished institutional collections and museums nationwide.

All guests over the age of two must wear a mask inside the Poetry Foundation building.
