Celebrate the sixth anniversary of the inauguration of the Legends Mural with an open mic hosted by muralist John Vergara. This event marks the first annual celebration of the mural’s inauguration. Registration for the open mic will be in-person at the beginning of the event. Dance along to music between poems. Come for the poetry, stay for the community!
The Legends Mural by John Vergara sits on Pierce Ave. and St. Louis Ave. and features three Humboldt Park legends: the late poets, painter/muralists, educators, cultural and artistic activists Salima Rivera, David Hernandez, and Gamaliel Ramirez. The fourth honoree is world-renowned Puerto Rican Poet visionary/revolutionary, Julia De Burgos. You can find more information about the project here.
This outdoor event will have limited seating, but it is recommended that you BYOC (Bring your own chair). This event is completely free of charge and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to register in advance. This event will be outdoors with seating on St. Louis Ave. and will feature amplified sound.
