This event is a part of ECOS: A Chicago Latine Poetry Festival

In this poetry workshop, Maya Odim from the Chicago Poetry Center will lead attendees in a workshop titled “This is For You.”

What message would you leave in a poem? Inspired by a poem by Nancy Morejón titled, Bottle in the Sea, we will discuss the messages people leave for others (stories, advice, histories, jokes, etc.) and messages people have left for us. Let's write message poems. Gather inspiration from the garden as you explore your poetic side–no experience is necessary. Space is limited, so register in advance!

Maya Odim (she/they) is a poet who tells stories with words and body language by writing poetry and choreographing guided by words. Believing in the way stories are held by many objects: by bodies, by walls, by pieces of paper, Maya collaborates with different kinds of artists and has performed on stages from those in backyards to those in museums. Maya has been published in the Performance Response Journal, fnews maagzine, and received honorable mention in the 2024 ruth weiss poetry contest.
