All are welcome to a poetry discussion and creative writing workshop, “Poetry as Apocalypse,” created and led by Giulia Ottavia Frattini.

Language is a raw material that asks to be continuously renegotiated according to the manifestation of current narratives, both intimate and collective. The workshop “Poetry as Apocalypse” invites participants to regard language as a material substance prone to be molded and carved to generate a textual poetic “body.” It aims to blend etymological references with elements from visual arts by highlighting a parallelism between poetry making and the sculptural process. This workshop is designed as a ceremony —or ritual—consisting of three phases meant to gradually disclose the potential of wording and its tangible nature. During the workshop, the participants are encouraged to experiment with the creation of a free verse poem.

Giulia Ottavia Frattini is a poet and writer based in Berlin. She is currently involved in art-oriented practices and collaborates as a contributor for several art magazines while developing her literary path. She perceives words as metamorphic elements, and her prime focus gravitates toward the unfolding of identity, language's physicality, and lyricism's disruption.

Registration is required for this event. To allow for more poets to participate in workshops with Visiting Teaching Artists, participants will be registered for the May workshop with L. Renée or the June workshop with Giulia Ottavia Frattini, but not both workshops. This program is for adult participants, aged 18 and older.

Closed captioning is available via Google Meet. We are happy to provide ASL interpretation. Please let us know at least one week in advance, if possible, if you would benefit from an ASL interpreter in attendance.
