Poetry that deploys ekphrasis as an interdisciplinary mode of art-making is often gorgeously attuned to potentials for translation between and among the artistic disciplines. It asks:

  • How do we harness these potentials?
  • What are we open to when we respond to art with poetry?
  • What are the threads of other artistic disciplines that can be unwoven and remixed into our poetic practice?

“UnWoven Between the Disciplines: Poetry and Art” will use reading, generative exercises, and questions as provocateurs of imaginative spaces to approach an interdisciplinary practice that reverses the course of thinking that keeps creatives siloed in their disciplines! Participants will:

  • Engage an art piece and one artist across dimensions with their poetry to develop this interdisciplinary-conscious practice.
  • Examine how we can move between disciplines captured in the works through embodied histories, emotions, techniques, landscapes, textures, and energies.
  • Engage collaboratively geared texts like those by Chicago-based poet and art educator Ola Faleti and Detroit-based Afro-Surrealist artist Andre Barker Jr. provided by UnWoven Literary and Arts Magazine.

Writers at all stages of their craft are welcome. Bring an internet-enabled device to look into an artist and artwork selected from any medium.
