“Writing in The Rhythm” is a creative writing workshop that works beyond the page intentionally. Over the course of two hours, we will quiet ourselves to “catch the beat” of our own rhythms while also learning to be attuned to the “audio stylings” of others.
This workshop will be collaborative, building from our initial work of exploring various communal oral traditions to investigating how formal choices in the use of white space, dialogue, and sound are used in poetry to produce fruitful and tantalizing ways of harnessing rhythm in the ear and on the page. We will engage with written and auditory poetry selections from various Western and Caribbean writers.
Come ready to read and listen, hear, and respond. Come ready to dance and debate more fully and deeply with the rhythms around us and within us.
This workshop is for participants aged 18 and older, of all backgrounds and experiences with reading and writing poetry.
