Poetry Magazine Release Party: Jolie Holland Live in Concert

Join the editors for a free concert by songwriter, musician, and Poetry contributor Jolie Holland. In January 2011, Holland appeared in a special section of the magazine called “The View from Here.” She wrote about the way poetry and music intertwines in her life: “Just as dinosaurs didn’t really disappear but became birds, poems have become songs. . . . I don’t know how to talk about what poetry is, except to talk about the experience. It’s good to have your hand on the rudder, and know when the current is moving powerfully.”

Loosely inspired by Neil Young's Zuma, the Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, and David Bowie, Brooklyn-based Jolie Holland released her fourth studio album, Pint of Blood, last June on Anti-Records. Some of the album’s lyrics were written tipsy on a train and others out of a trance. The New York Times characterizes her songs as being “about love and jealousy, traveling and exhaustion, desire and loss. They’re rampant with beautiful losers.”
