Poetry and music, though distinct, share a lineage, and as sister arts, have a long history of inspiring one another. In this program, Poetry magazine selections are complemented by solo piano in celebration of the magazine’s centennial. Works by William Stafford, Kay Ryan, Tennessee Williams, Archibald MacLeish, E.E. Cummings, and X J Kennedy are paired with music by Aaron Copland, Augusta Read Thomas, William Bolcom, John Cage, Elliot Carter, and Samuel Barber. Pianist Kuang-Hao Huang (pictured) aided in selecting poems and pairing them with the musical pieces. Music will be presented alongside readings of the poems by performers Suzanne Petri and John Mohrlein.
