Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago Salon Concert: Robert & Clara Schumann, Friedrich Rückert & Heinrich Heine
61 West Superior Street
Free Admission
Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago kicks off its Collaborative Works Festival with a salon concert exploring Robert & Clara Schumann’s tumultuous path leading to their marriage in 1840, and the musical outpouring of song that resulted from their union. During a period of emotional extremes, Robert was drawn often to the poetry of Friedrich Rückert and Heinrich Heine. While navigating the story of Robert and Clara’s marriage, Robert’s fascination with these poets will be examined, as will the ways in which both he and Clara set their poetry to music. Featuring Susanna Phillips, soprano; Kelley O’Connor, mezzo-soprano; Nicholas Phan, tenor; Joshua Hopkins, baritone; Myra Huang, piano.
