Though best known as a revolutionary and influential playwright, Bertolt Brecht wrote more than 2,000 poems of astonishing range and formal accomplishment. Love Poems is the first volume in David Constantine and Tom Kuhn’s monumental project to translate all of Brecht’s poetry into English, much of it for the first time.

Join Steppenwolf ensemble members Tim Hopper and Martha Lavey and Steppenwolf friends Jessica Thebus and Michael Smith in celebrating Brecht’s love poems, which are by turns tender and frank, lyrical and bawdy. Following the performance, Jessica Thebus will discuss Brecht and his love poems with noted dramaturg and translator Derek Matson.
