The Open Door Readings: May
The Open Door series presents work from Chicago’s established and emerging poets and highlights the area’s outstanding writing programs. Each hour-long event features readings by two Chicagoland writing program instructors and two of their current or recent students. May's Open Door Reading presents the University of Chicago’s Hannah Brooks-Motl and Jose-Luis Moctezuma with Columbia College Chicago’s Michael Robins and John Setzco.
Hannah Brooks-Motl is the author of the poetry collections The New Years (2014) and M (2015). She is a graduate student at the University of Chicago.
Jose-Luis Moctezuma's work has been published in Jacket2, Chicago Review, Big Bridge, FlashPoint, Comma, and elsewhere. Spring Tlaloc Seance (Projective Industries, 2016) is his most recent chapbook. He is an associate editor at MAKE Magazine. He is currently at work on a dissertation on avant-garde poetics, transmediality, and automatism at the University of Chicago.
Michael Robins is the author of three collections of poetry, most recently In Memory of Brilliance & Value (Saturnalia Books, 2015). Born in Portland, Oregon, he earned a BA from the University of Oregon and his MFA from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He teaches literature and creative writing at Columbia College Chicago.
John Setzco is a MFA poetry candidate at Columbia College Chicago. He has poems in the most recent issue of Columbia Poetry Review. In July, he's moving to Japan to teach English for a year.
The Poetry Foundation Library will be open from 4:00–7:00 PM prior to the reading.
