About

Elizabeth Kray (1916–1987) was a visionary arts administrator and imaginative inventor of poetry programs and initiatives. Before founding Poets House, the poetry library and literary center located in New York City, with Stanley Kunitz in 1985, she served as director of both the Academy of American Poets and the Poetry Center of the 92nd Street Y. This exhibition features highlights from Kray’s archive, including letters from such acclaimed poets as Elizabeth Bishop, Jane Cooper, E.E. Cummings, and George Oppen. It is presented in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Poets House.
