Poetry Magazine Launches Digital Subscription

CHICAGO — The Poetry Foundation, publisher of Poetry magazine, is pleased to announce that Poetry is now available through a digital subscription starting with the May 2013 issue. For $29.99, iPhone and iPad users can access a digital package that includes content from the print magazine, the monthly Poetry magazine podcast, and a monthly discussion guide. Individual digital issues can also be purchased at the Apple Newsstand for $2.99. Poetry, the oldest monthly magazine devoted to poetry in the English-speaking world, publishes 11 issues per year, including a July/August double issue.

 

“By making the magazine available on iPad and iPhone, we hope to engage new readers and expand our accessibility for international users,” said Poetry editor Christian Wiman. “The digital edition maintains the elegance of the print magazine while enhancing the reader's experience though expanded content, such as a discussion guide and editors' podcast. We're excited for this opportunity to make Poetry available to the growing community of digital readers.”

The May issue of Poetry features original poems from Linda Gregerson, Geoffrey Brock, and Kay Ryan, among others, as well as Simon Armitage’s first appearance in Poetry, a portfolio from 2013 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize winner Marie Ponsot, and prose from V. Penelope Pelizzon and Amiri Baraka.

By offering a digital subscription to Poetry magazine in the Apple Newsstand, we seek to extend Poetry’s audience, reaching those who prefer to read on their iPads or iPhones,” said the Poetry Foundation’s director of digital media, Catherine Halley. “Our partners in this venture, 29th Street Publishing, have provided the platform that makes it possible for us to seamlessly publish the Newsstand edition each month.”
