Fleet Foxes Start Literary/Art Journal The Unified Field

News for the hips among us: Fleet Foxes are starting a 60-page full-color literary/art journal, reports The L Magazine, who discovered the band was behind the project after a little digging. Here's the list of contributors to The Unified Field. Do we spy a poet or two? Near Gloria Steinem? More:

In the case of the inaugural issue, we can expect a 10'' transparent vinyl pressing of rare tracks from...[Robin] Pecknold, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Amen Dunes, Grizzly Bear spin-off Department of Eagles and more, while its 60 pages will work off the theme of "transition" (each issue will carry a theme, natch). Round one features a journal entry penned by recently freed West Memphis 3 member Damien Echols on adjusting to life after 18 years on death row, an excerpt from Gloria Steinem's forthcoming book, a photo essay on adolescence by noted rock photographer Autumn de Wilde, a contribution from SPIN's Charles Aaron, and another from Animal Collective sister/visual collaborator Abby Portner, among 30-plus other pieces. Also worth mentioning: Both Beach House and Sub Pop are listed among the collective's roster. Perhaps a hint of what future issues will hold?

Until then, a limited, hand-numbered supply of just 500 will be made available on September 18 at select record stores and shops (including Marlow & Sons and Mociun in our Brooklyn town), so it might not be a bad idea to grab a pre-order here just in case. You know how Brooklynites love their lit journals, even more so when they come with vinyl. As for icing on the cake, proceeds from sales benefit writing/tutoring non-profit 826 National. This all sounds really quite nice.
