A Playlist for Poetry’s February 2017 Issue

I wanted to make a playlist about longing for another world, or maybe: that longing for a better world-within-this-one. The poems in the February issue are deeply engaged with the challenges of the current social and political moment. At the heart of each piece, I think, is a deep desire to transcend the limitations of the body, human time, human breath, and even the poetic line. The songs I chose are quite guitar-heavy. The sound of a guitar can darkly mirror the human voice, as it contains the metallic and the organic within it. I like that.
