There Was Poetry. And Muddy Waters. During a Commercial in the Lions vs Packers Game
That's right, Edward A. Guest's poem "See It Through" inspired a Chrysler ad. Here's a bit from a Wall Street Journal post:
Chrysler Group LLC is waxing poetic in the latest television and print ads for its Chrysler 300 flagship sedan. The ads’ tagline, “See It Through,” is adapted from Edgar A. Guest’s 1917 poem of the same title. The car maker says the poem reflects the resolve of Chrysler and Detroit to get through difficult times and stage comebacks.
The 60-second TV ad makes its debut tomorrow during the Thanksgiving Day football game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. The spot is part of the company’s “Imported from Detroit” campaign that made a splash with ads during this year’s Super Bowl.
The commercial begins with blues legend Muddy Waters singing “Mannish Boy.” With the music in the background a voice-over recites Guest’s “See It Through” as a Chrysler 300 drives through Detroit-area neighborhoods. Guest’s work is a big part of Michigan’s and Detroit’s history. He was once the state’s poet laureate.
