Time to Pay the Fiddler, Obsessive Submitters: Duotrope is now a Pay Service
No more free rides at Duotrope. From their website:
What is happening?
Starting on January 1, 2013, most of Duotrope's awesome features will be available to paid subscribers only.
Why is this happening?
For over seven years, Duotrope has tried to make ends meet by asking those who use the website or subscribe to our newsletter to contribute a small amount. Unfortunately, only about 10% of those who have used our services have ever contributed, and we haven't met any of our monthly goals since 2007. Quite simply, we can no longer afford to run Duotrope this way.
To those of you who have contributed, we offer our sincerest thanks! Duotrope would not have made it these past seven years without your help.
How much will it cost?
People will be able to purchase either monthly or annual subscriptions. Monthly subscriptions will cost USD $5 per month and annual subscriptions will cost USD $50 per year.
Gift certificates are also available. They can be redeemed for 2, 6, 12, or 24 months of access.
What will a subscription give me?
Subscribers will have access to all the features you have come to love: our robust search feature, market listings, statistical reports, your personal control panel including your submissions tracker, etc. As Duotrope adds and improves features — and we do have plans! — you will have access to those as well. Finally, if you opt-in, you will receive our info-packed weekly newsletters.
If I don't subscribe, what will I miss out on?You will no longer be able to run searches or browse the index of listings. The information shown on individual market listings will be limited. You won't be able to access our calendar of deadlines, statistical reports, or RSS fees. You will lose access to your control panel, including your submissions tracker*. You will no longer receive our info-packed weekly newsletters.
* If you don't plan on subscribing and you use our submission tracker, you should back up your data before January 1st. We provide an "Export to Excel/CSV" option on that page. If you decide to subscribe at a later date, you will regain access to all of your previous information.
What does this mean? What does this meeeeeeeean!?!!!!!!!!!
