Joyelle McSweeney Wins Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women Playwrights

You heard it here: The winner of the inaugural Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women Playwrights is Joyelle McSweeney! McSweeney's winning script, Dead Youth, or, The Leaks, will be published by Litmus Press. The play, according to her self-descript on Facebook, is "a rewriting of The Tempest starring Julian Assange, Abduwali Abdukhadir Muse, a female Antoine de St. Exupery, and a bunch of Dead Youth."

The shortlist for the award can be found here. Dead Youth, or The Leaks will receive a staged reading at the New Ohio Theatre in New York, directed by Fiona Templeton, on Monday, October 14, at 6:30 PM. See you there!
