Announcing.... The Winners of the Joan Leiman Jacobson Prizes!
Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 “Discovery”/Boston Review Contest: Justin Boening, of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; Meghan Dahn, of New York, New York; Nava EtShalom, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Jeremy Schmidt, of Los Angeles, California.
The Joan Leiman Jacobson Poetry Prizes are presented by the 92Y Unterberg Poetry Center and Boston Review. This year, the preliminary judges were Timothy Donnelly, poetry editor at Boston Review, and Eduardo C. Corral. Final judges were John Ashbery, Susan Mitchell and Rosanna Warren. Each winner is awarded a reading at 92Y, publication in Boston Review and $500. Congrats! This contest is certainly no joke, as noted by its submission guidelines:
1. The contest is open to poets who have not published a full-length poetry collection. Poets who have published chapbooks of less than 42 pages or in editions of less than 500 are still eligible to apply. Poets who have a book contract at the time of submission or who are subsequently awarded a book contract are not eligible for the contest if their book is scheduled for publication before fall 2014.
2. Submissions consist of a typed ten-page manuscript. At least two of the submitted poems must be one page in length. Do not submit multiple poems per page.
3. Individual poems that have been or will be published in periodicals or anthologies may be submitted; however, at least two of the submitted poems must be unpublished.
