Joy Harjo Visits New Yorker Poetry Podcast
The latest episode of the New Yorker Poetry Podcast features Poet Laureate of the United States Joy Harjo in conversation with New Yorker poetry editor Kevin Young. Harjo reads from her poem, "Running," and discusses one of her favorite poems from the magazine's archive, "Still-Life with Potatoes, Pearls, Raw Meat, Rhinestones, Lard, and Horse Hooves," by Sandra Cisneros. "I liked the wildness of it," Harjo says about Cisneros's poem. More:
It reminds me, especially in these times when we can't even go hang out, of being able to hang out and visit with people and be wild with people, and dream, and dream together and have fun. Even as it's also a poem, I think also a little bit about being at the edge of ruin and discovery, which is usually the same place or can be the same place.
Tune in at the New Yorker.
