On Morning Edition, Jeevika Verma spends time with torrin greathouse, author of Wound from the Mouth of a Wound (Milkweed Editions, 2020), which won the Ballard Spahr Prize for Poetry this year. Verma writes that greathouse, who is trans and disabled, noticed that "[p]oetry is often drawn to beauty." More:

"For trans women, beauty is a double bind," she says. So she wanted to embrace ugliness, rather than relying on the expectations of beauty.
