Letter from Poetry Magazine
Letter to the Editor
BY Milton Rosen
Dear Editor,
I need look no farther than Poetry magazine to find a reason for poetry's decline. I have read almost a year's issues, and the poetry I've found is so obscure and contrived as to be meaningless or incomprehensible. Poetry magazine has (or had?) a great reputation. It once had fine editors who fostered the careers of Frost, Eliot, Pound, and Stevens, but that was many years ago. I think you are living in the past, riding on past performance.
