Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I am happy that Poetry makes room occasionally for long poems but found the inclusion of Frank Bidart's "The Third Hour of the Night" (October, 2004) disappointing. I'm not one of those who thinks two facing pages is especially long, but thirty-six pages is a bit much. It took up fully half the issue and was the only poem presented. I'm sure those who like diffuse, incoherent poems were delighted. For me, it was an issue of Poetry without any poetry.
