Letter from Poetry Magazine
Letter to the Editor
BY Jeff Tigchelaar
Dear Editor,
You predicted that not all readers would be pleased to find more prose than poetry in the December 2006 issue. It was the eleven pages of portraits, however, that prompted me to wonder whether that space would have been better served by poems. Yet I find I've returned to David Schorr's engravings several times, as I frequently do with poems. And as is so often true with the poems, repeat visits have changed my perspective and heightened my appreciation for the pieces. Lines that first looked wild and aimless work to make a coherent whole. Nothing is out of place. There was certainly more poetry in the issue than you indicated.
