Letter from Poetry Magazine
Letter to the Editor
BY Kathleen M. Du Haime
Dear Editor,
I was struck by how beautifully each of George Szirtes's poems mirrors those haunting pictures. The words and images will stay with me a long time. To quote Szirtes: "We look and look again until we burn a hole/in the paper."
The same cannot be said for the art on the cover of the February issue. "Woman's head" is rather clumsily executed in charcoal, and, in my opinion, has no aesthetic appeal whatsoever. I've noticed over the twenty-four months I have been a Poetry subscriber that much of your cover art is quite ugly, some bordering on the grotesque. I would be interested to know if any of your readers agree with me.
