Letter from Poetry Magazine
Letter to the Editor
BY Hassel Ledbetter
Dear Editor,
As a long-time physical scientist and prose writer who turned only recently to reading and studying poetry, I was stunned by the string of negative letters about Clive James's article on Ezra Pound, which I found excellent. His article provoked me to study Pound, reconsider Joyce and Eliot, and to discover Wyndham Lewis, of whom I knew nothing. I owe James a huge intellectual debt. His article prompted me to revisit many fine points about writing and the relationship between poetry and prose.
