Letter from Poetry Magazine
Letter to the Editor
BY Peter Lennon
Dear Editor,
What good fortune for Frederick Seidel, after fifty years of poems, to meet the likes of another poet and kindred spirit, Michael Hofmann [“So Goddamn Glamorous,” September 2009]. When Hofmann says that Seidel was “never a reviewer” however, he overlooks Seidel’s first appearance in Poetry. In January 1965 he reviewed, to what was then John Berryman’s good fortune, 77 Dream Songs.
