Letter from Poetry Magazine

Dear Editor,
Nalini Nadkarni’s essay [“Green I Love You Green,” July/August 2010] convinced me to renew my subscription to Poetry. Her piece, and others like it in my favorite section, “The View from Here,” present poetry in a way that makes its value obvious—and that keeps me reading, even when many of the poems you publish don’t speak to me. I’m also grateful because the essay sent me to her book, Between Earth and Sky: Our Intimate Connections to Trees, and the book is full of poems that do what Shelley said poetry has to do in a world buried in facts—help us “to imagine that which we know” and inspire us “to act that which we imagine.”
