Dear Editor,

I read with great interest Daisy Fried’s piece “Torment” [March 2011], and I enjoyed every line and every detail, along with every little thing it left unsaid.

My question is: In what way is this a poem and not a modern short story? Is it because of the line breaks? And who ultimately decides, the writer or the editor?
