DMs with Corbett O’Toole

Now that I’m out of the woods,
now that I’m pursued
by different wolves,

now that there’s no question
of my life which survived
the woods and the fire,

I reach out to Corbett O’Toole
who front-lined with the best—
rolled wheelchair and parked

and made love and was loved
by crips. Yes. I reached out
to a complete stranger. Hello!

I’m lost and all my goods
are perishable. Help!
How do you rebound

when everything’s a bramble
and the one you love
no longer camps

near your coordinates?
I can’t find her.
Where is the grid?

How to get out of this?
Corbett said, “The question
from crip love to crip love

is always the same.
How do you want
to pass the time?

We have each other.
Now how do you want
to pass the time?”
