Peace, Irungu
By Heishikeyi
He who saw Irungu a kicking infant
And so suffered a faint heart due to jealousy
And proceeded to count undelivered dowry [from sisters’ suitors]
May his legs break from knees, hip joint come loose
Irungu keep calm
Won’t you keep quiet, child
And your father is still in the forest
Hunting the woodland buffalo
Oh, calm my child.
