rain poem
By Manny Loley
Translated By Manny Loley
rain passed through
just now
rain
chxósh
chxósh
chxósh
chxósh
rain rained
now
rainbow
stretches
water trickles
mountain
shines in rainlight
Translated from the Diné by the author
Notes:
In their original form, these poems did not have titles. Due to stylistic requirements on the part of the magazine, titles were included. By not titling these poems, I was working in the style of Rex Lee Jim’s 1995 collection saad, in which none of the Diné language poems had titles. It was also my intention to refuse to lasso the poem’s “aboutness” because the content and the language of the poems are outside restriction or classification. If given the option, I would still leave these poems untitled.
