Painting a vibrant picture of Brooklyn in the tumultuous 1970s
“Another Brooklyn,” by Jacqueline Woodson, is not a typical coming-of-age novel. It takes place in Brooklyn in the 1970s, an environment
in which drugs were ubiquitous, white flight was on the rise and young girls of color relied on each other for support. Woodson grew up in that era herself, and Jeffrey Brown meets with her in Brooklyn to discuss how she sees writers as 'history keepers.'
