Winner of the 2017 National Poetry series, trans poet Jos Charles’s revolutionary second collection of poetry, feeld, features a transliteration of English—“Chaucerian in affect, but revolutionary in effect”—that acts as a lyrical unraveling of the circuitry of gender and speech, to make space for bodies that have been historically denied their own vocabulary. Charles received a Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation in 2016.
