Join us for a poetry reading, artist talk, and reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibition Escaramuza, the Poetics of Home.

Escaramuza, the Poetics of Home is a collaborative work by photographer Constance Jaeggi and poets Angelina Sáenz and ire’ne lara silva. The exhibition explores escaramuza, the team sport of women’s precision horse riding, addressing complex themes of identity, family, and gender with a lush combination of poetry and photography.

The exhibition opening will feature an artist talk by Jaeggi beginning at 6 PM CT, followed by readings by Sáenz and Silva, and closing with a celebratory reception. 

Constance Jaeggi is a Swiss photographic artist based in Fort Worth, Texas. Jaeggi’s work focuses on the relationship between horse and human, in particular women. She uses horses as a backdrop for exploring themes of intimacy and identity, connection, and power dynamics. 

Angelina Sáenz is an award-winning educator and poet. She is a UCLA Writing Project fellow, an alumna of the VONA/Voices Workshop, and a Macondo Writer’s Workshop fellow. She is the author of two collections of poetry, Edgecliff and Maestra, both with FlowerSong Press, and a children’s book, Waiting for Luna.

ire’ne lara silva, the 2023 Texas State Poet Laureate, is the author of five poetry collections, furia, Blood Sugar Canto, CUICACALLI/House of Song, FirstPoems, and the eater of flowers; two chapbooks, Enduring Azucares and Hibiscus Tacos; a comic book, VENDAVAL; and a short story collection, flesh to bone, which won the Premio Aztlán.

Escaramuza, the Poetics of Home es una obra colaborativa de la fotógrafa Constance Jaeggi y las poetas Angelina Sáenz e ire’ne lara silva. La exhibición explora escaramuza, el deporte de equitación de precisión para mujeres, abordando temas complicados de identidad, familia, y género con una abundante combinación de poesía y fotografía.

La inauguración de la exhibición presentará una charla de artista por Jaeggi, empezando a las 6 PM CT, seguida por lecturas de poesía por Saenz y Silva, y cerrando con una recepción de celebración.
