Catie Rosemurgy

Poet Catie Rosemurgy was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and raised in Escanaba, Michigan. She earned a BA at Macalester College and an MFA at the University of Alabama.
 
Rosemurgy’s poetry is influenced by music—including the work of contemporary artists PJ Harvey and Liz Phair—and landscape, especially that of her native Upper Peninsula. In a 2010 interview with Susie DeFord for BOMBLOG, Rosemurgy noted that “our connection and lack of connection to a particular place on this teeming planet is one of the things I’m always writing about.” Concerned with both place and music, Rosemurgy’s wry, sharply imagined poems also investigate the layered nature of identity. Writing for the Boston Review, critic Elizabeth Gramm praised Rosemurgy’s ability to evoke “simultaneity: the self is known and other, intimate and alien.”
 
Rosemurgy’s poetry collections include The Stranger Manual (2010) and My Favorite Apocalypse (2001) and the chapbook First the Burning (2018). Her poems have been featured in the anthologies Isn’t It Romantic: 100 Love Poems by Young American Poets (2004), Poetry 30 (2005), and Best American Poetry (1997).
 
Rosemurgy has won a Rona Jaffe Award for Emerging Female Artists and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She teaches at the College of New Jersey.
