R.I.P. Robert Mezey (1935–2020)

Robert Mezey, a poet, translator, and critic, died on Saturday. He was 85. Mezey was a professor of English and poet-in-residence at Pomona College. For the Los Angeles TimesDana Gioia writes more:

A religious skeptic, Mezey did not believe in the afterlife. Instead he offered a gentle vision of death:

Blessed oblivion, infinitely forgiving,
Perpetual peace and silence and complete
Absence of pain. Now that’s what I call living.
