Letter to the Editor
BY Daniel Picker
Dear Editor,
W.S. Di Piero's recent prose piece ["Cook the Hell Out of 'Em," July/August 2008] was your finest publication in recent memory. I thoroughly enjoyed reading of Hayden Carruth's life, especially his existence during the eighties, when Brothers I Loved You All was published. The poems in that book, like Di Piero's piece, attest to the authenticity of Carruth's work and life. It seems to this reader— and I risk sounding like someone's disgruntled grandpa—that that authenticity is sorely missed in the work of the present generation of MFA-trained poets who know no life outside of academia. Enough jargon, finally the real thing! Cheers to Di Piero for such a clear memory.
